About SSL/TLS Certificates

An SSL/TLS certificate encrypts traffic between your browser and a web server, and verifies the server's identity. Certificates have an expiry date — expired certificates trigger browser security warnings that block visitors.

Certificate Types
DV (Domain Validation) — verifies domain ownership only. Fast, free (Let's Encrypt). Most websites.
OV (Organization Validation) — verifies domain + organization identity. For businesses.
EV (Extended Validation) — highest verification level. Used by banks and large enterprises.

This tool connects directly to your server on the specified port (default 443), retrieves the certificate chain without modifying verification, and analyzes the certificate contents. Results are cached for 15 minutes.
